Snarky letter I wish I could mail to a customer.
Dear Diabetic Soda Drinker,
I commend you on your interest in improving your Type 2 Diabetic situation and visiting a local heath food store for ideas. Might I ask, however, that before you start looking for a "magic pill or something" to solve that pesky little insulin dependency you have going on that you actually listen to your doctor and pretty much everyone else out there when they tell you to improve your diet and maybe exercise a little? Trust me, the magic pills we keep behind the counter for the customers we do like will only work if you put forth your part too*.
While we're here, lets also address your communication style. Being asked indirect and vague questions are what wellness counselors live for. Really. But it only works if you talk with us and help us narrow down what it is you're really asking. We like to know what question we're answering and we haven't found a reliable method for reading minds just yet. So rather than giving muddled and quite terse answers then becoming angry when you hear something you don't want to hear like suggestions on exercise or diet as I point to the soda in your hand, perhaps you better just tell me what is is you want because yelling at me and storming out of the store isn't going to get you anywhere except one step closer to another insulin injection.
Sincerely,
The Girl Who Needs You to be Direct as She is Blind to Most Social Ques and Might Already be Having a Rough Day.
Other than that work has been mostly lovely. I enjoy being able to talk about natural stuff with people. I love it when I'm able to have discussions with people who really care about it and who want to hear what you have to say; rather than the quick-fixers or those who don't believe I know anything because I look too young. Ah well, chalk it up to the reality of life in retail I suppose, at least it won't last for forever. I also love that I get to read about the natural stuff when it's slow--reading about something I like and I'm getting paid for? Neat.
