You have to remember to forget.
Weird point of view, right?
but true.
When you think about what it is you want to forget, you're still thinking about it.
Then if you're like me, telling yourself to not think about it doesn't help because you focus on it even more; the cycle then continues.
Acknowledge the anxieties and stuff going through your head that you want to forget.
Telling that weird part of your head "Yes brain, I know" when the anxieties start creeping in give you more control.
Example, something like "Yes brain, I know my face could potentially explode if I hold my breath too long," somehow diffuses a lot of those ruminating thoughts.
Schedule time to think about that thing that your want to forget. Sounds strange, but try it. Tell yourself, "I will think about that thing that I don't want to remember at 2:10 for ten minutes." Suddenly 2:14 rolls around and I've run out of things to think about on that subject and I'm ready for something else.
